My mother's family (HERSHEY/MILLER) comes out of Wabash county. Many have come out of the Lancaster/ Friendsville and some had settled in Mt Carmel. Are there any "cousins" out there looking to share information.
Does anyone out there know how LANCASTER got it's name - I'm curious if maybe it was started by people who came from Lancaster PA.
(Webmaster's Note: Yes, "Its name was derived from Lancaster, the county seat of Lancaster county, Pennsylvania, from which locality many emigrated to this vicinity." from History of Edwards, Lawrence and Wabash Counties, Illinois, 1883)

Also can anyone give me directions to some of the older cemetaries in the Lancaster area. My mother says that she can remember going to several when she was younger - but she can't remember where they are located
(Webmaster's Note: There are quite a few smaller ones.  The main ones are the Old Lancster Cemetary (on the west side along the Lancaster-West Salem road), the New Lancaster Cemetary (on the north side along the Lancaster-Sumner road), and Jordan Creek or Old Brick Cemetary (which my family takes care of, about 2 miles sw of Lancaster).  There are several other small family cemetaries around the area (one being about two miles west on a curve of the Lancaster-West Salem road).  If you are visiting you might check at the Mt. Carmel Public Library for the cemetary listing they have there.)

Hi I need some help, on finding some marriage, death, records of my ancestors.  I have wrote to several places to locate these records and had no luck. if you can help me please email me and let me know what I need to do. I am a grand daughter of Benjamin Smith, a Rev. War , Abner Turner. and of course on down the line.  I only found Abner Turner, on one census and that was 1850, in Wabash Co. ILL, The census was called an record of Early ILL Records. I haven't been able to find him any where, since. He had a daughter that was on that 1850 c. Mary Jane Turner, she married there in Edwards Co. to William Duncan. They stayed there and died there, and are buried at a cemetery in or close to Salem and Mt Carmel. I went there once but couldn't find their graves. I have their marriage record also their death records. But it is her brother that is my gr-grand father, McDonald Turner, he came to Pope Co. AR & died here in 1910. His wife or one of them and the one that is my line . she died in 1883 at White Co. ILL. I have his pension of the civil war, it tells all that, her name was Melvina Elizabeth Wear or he spelled it Were on his papers. I have not been able to find a marriage record on them, or her death record. McDonald married again in AR and had 3 more children. So I don't know if his parents died in ILL or left I have not found them any where. Abner Turner married Rosella Smith daughter of Ransler Vanburen Smith, there is a lot of history on the Smith family, but none on the Turners. We have a lot of Turners in AR all in the counties surrounding Pope, McD. married after he got to AR in Van Buren Co. it joins. If you need any more inf. let me know.
